‘Tis the season of giving! As Christmas is approaching and the new year is imminent, we wanted to get into the festive spirit and look back at some of the charities we have been lucky enough to work with this year on data projects – helping them to reach more supporters and deliver vital services to people who need them. We’re shining a light on the positive work these charities are doing, to help spread their message and say thank you for all of their hard work.
Saving the planet with WWF
As the world’s leading conversation organisation, WWF works across nearly 100 countries. It collaborates with people around the world at every level to help local communities conserve the natural resources they depend upon, transform markets and policies toward sustainability, and protect and restore species and their habitats. Its efforts ensure that the value of nature is reflected in decision-making from a local to a global scale.
We thought we would highlight WWF’s new app, which they’ve called My Footprint. We love this app because it uses technology for positive change. First released in late 2020, you can use the app to calculate your carbon footprint and then get practical advice on how you can introduce changes to reduce your footprint. It is everyone’s responsibility to create a greener future, and this is a great way of taking your first step. You can download the app here.
We recently won a joint award with WWF for the ‘Best Use of Apteco Software 2021’. Watch the winning presentation to learn more about their use of the Apteco Marketing Suite, particularly PeopleStage.
Helping visually impaired veterans with Blind Veterans UK
Blind Veterans UK is a wonderful charity that helps ex-Service men and women of every generation to rebuild their lives after sight loss. Established in 1915, the charity has since been helping to provide rehabilitation, training, practical advice, and emotional support to tens of thousands of blind veterans.
The charity offers loads of ways for its supporters to raise money. The 2022 calendar includes sporting events such as the London to Brighton Cycle, the Great North Run and the London Marathon. They also facilitate virtual challenge events and give the option for people to plan their own fundraisers. Find out more here.

Securing safe housing with Shelter
Shelter is a fantastic charity that believes that home is a human right – offering support and advice for those facing housing issues and homelessness. Shelter works in communities to understand the causes of people getting displaced from their homes and how best to increase access to housing. Its national campaigns are designed to fight for change from government and policymakers, as well as carrying out ground-breaking research to understand the UK’s housing problems how to solve them.
Shelter released a Christmas campaign video to help raise awareness and donations for people facing homelessness this Christmas. Funds raised from this campaign will go to providing support for those facing eviction, living in unsuitable temporary accommodation or, as the video suggests, having to endure another night’s sleep in their car during the festive period.
Supporting veterans with the Royal British Legion
Next up is the Royal British Legion (RBL). It works to provide welfare, comradeship, representation, and remembrance for the armed forces community. Made up of 235,000 members, 110,000 volunteers, and a network of partners and charities, it is the UK’s leading armed forces charity. Part of the charity’s work includes the creation of manifestos that outline key actions for the government to take to improve the health, finances and wellbeing of armed forces personnel, veterans, and their families.
This year’s Poppy Appeal marks 100 years that red poppies have been worn as a show of support for the armed forces community. RBL also celebrated the return of their Poppy Appeal collectors to local communities, put on hold last year due to Covid restrictions. And that’s not all! This year, the appeal was supported by Queen Park Rangers, who helped to raise money from their shirt auction. A successful campaign all round!

We pride ourselves on working with some of the UK’s leading charities, helping them to use their data to improve the lives of thousands of people. If you would like to find out if we could do the same for you, get in touch for an initial conversation.
